Premchand Fellowship for Sri Lankan writer
Poet and author Sumathy Sivamohan is awarded the prestigious
Premchand Fellowship 2011 by the National Academy of letters, India
(Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, India).
Sahitya Akademi has instituted the Fellowship in the name of the
great Indian writer on the occasion of the 125th birth anniversary to be
annually offered to persons of eminence in the field of culture and
literature from SAARC countries. The fellowship period is three months
and the recipient will be the guest of Sahitya Akademi during the
period, states an Indian Cultural Centre press release.
Sahitya Akademi decided to offer its Premchand Fellowship to Prof.
Sumathy Sivamohan in view of her eminence in the field of literature and
culture. Prof. Sumathy Sivamohan holds a Doctorate from the Washington
State University, USA. She has authored Thin Veils: In the Shadow of the
Gun and Wicked Witch Performing Act/ivism (2003), Militants, Militarism
and the Crisis of (Tamil) Nationalism. Monograph, Marga (2003), like
Myth and Mother: a Political Autobiography in Poetry and Prose. Colombo,
Sirahununi (2008).
