US envoy meets Suu Kyi in Myanmar
US: The new US envoy to Myanmar held talks with democracy campaigner
Aung San Suu Kyi on Tuesday during his second visit to the country as
Washington looks to engage with the isolated nation.
Derek Mitchell, appointed as the first US coordinator for policy on
Myanmar in August, met Suu Kyi in Yangon as he concluded a two-day trip,
according to members of her National League for Democracy (NLD) party.
"Daw Suu and Derek Mitchell met at the US residence for about
one-and-a-half hours," said one NLD source, asking not be named, without
giving any details of the meeting. Mitchell met the opposition icon
previously during his first official trip to Myanmar last month.
