Uniforms for Galle Face food vendors

Food vendors at the Galle Face Green will be issued uniforms and identity cards next month, Colombo Municipal Council Chief Medical Officer Dr Pradeep Kariyawasam told the Daily News yesterday.

He said that this initiative is a part of the endeavour to convert Galle Face Green into a safe eating zone. Dr Kariyawasam said that there are over 100 food vendors in about 50 to 60 food outlets in Galle Face Green. He said that arrangements are also made to supply water to them from the mainline with attention to food hygiene.


Alakamandawa over SLRC tomorrow

Alakamandawa, a special programme depicting the literary and art life of Sri Lanka’s greatest author Martin Wickremasinghe will be telecast over Rupavahini on October 27 at 10.20 pm.

Its screenplay titled Sinhala Sanskruthika Pragnava, is by Sunil Mihindukula and Alakamandawa directed by Vinitha Karunaratne, is Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation production.


Seminar

WP Governor calls for Janaza prayers

Western Province Governor Alavi Mowlana has called on Sri Lanka’s Muslims to participate in Janaza following Friday prayers in memory of the late Libyan leader Muhammar Gaddafi and Saudi Crown Prince Sultan-al-Saud.


Protus Tissera death anniversary

The fourth death anniversary of former Naththandiya MP Protus Tissera will be commemorated today (26) at Seelananda Central College in Koswatta. The ceremony is being organized by the Dayasritha Thisera Foundation and a free medical clinic and the distribution of crutches, wheel chairs and spectacles to the needy persons will also be made.

The late Protus Tissera was elected as MP for Naththandiya contesting from the United Front in 1970, continued till 1977.

The late Protus Tissera who refused his pay as MP for Naththandiya was extremely popular with the people and was an example to present day politicians.


Woman killed while crossing road

A 72-year-old woman who had been crossing the road at Digampathaha on the Habarana-Dambulla main road, was knocked down by a van. She was admitted to the Dambulla Base Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
