Exposition of Sacred Hair Relics of the Buddha begins

The exposition of the Sacred Hair Relics of the Buddha,organized to mark the 2600th Sri Sambuddhatwa Jayanthi, commenced in the historic city of Kandy graced by the presence of the Sacred Tooth Relic yesterday.

On the guidance and advice of the Most Ven Udugama Sri Buddharakkita Mahanayaka Thera of the Asgiriya Chapter, the exposition will continue at the Kandy Asgiriya Sri Vijayasundararama Viharaya until this evening.

Exposition hours extended

The exposition of the Sacred Hair Relics of the Buddha held at the Asgiriya Sri Vijayasundararamaya Raja Maha Viharaya, which was due to close for the day at 4 pm, was extended till 10 pm yesterday to facilitate large crowds, who flocked to pay homage. The exposition will re-start at 8.30 am today and end at 7 pm.

The Sacred Hair Relics of the Buddha deposited at the Gangaramaya Hunupitiya, Golombo was taken to Kandy in a special flight by Mass Media and Information Minister Keheliya Rambukwella under the guidance of Gangaramadipathi Ven Galaboda Gnaneswara Thera and Ven Kirinde Assaji Thera and thereafter conducted in a special motorcade to the Vijayasundararamaya Asgiriya.

Thereafter, the Sacred Relics were placed in a special Mandapaya.

Arrangements were made for this exposition of the Sacred Hair Relics of the Buddha by an organizing committee co-chaired by Minister Keheliya Rambukwella and Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayaka.

Lekakadikari of the Asgiriya Maha Vhera Chapter Ven Anamaduwe Dhammadassi Thera, Deputy Lekakadikari Ven Narampanawe Ananda Thera, Sri Vijayasundaramadhipathi Ven Molagoda Dhammarathana Thera, Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayaka, Higher Education Deputy Minister Nandimitra Ekanayake and Diyawadana Nilame of the Sri Dalada Maligawa Pradeep Nilanga Dela were also present.
