Batti on shopping spree for Deepavali

The return of peace has enabled the Hindu community in the Batticaloa district to celebrate the Deepavali festival on a grand scale today.

People went on a hectic buying spree in preparation for the festival. Shops and market places in Batticaloa, Kathankudy, Valachchenai, Kalawanchikudi and Chenkaladi were chock-a-block with people trying to make last minute purchases.
