The Asia Tea (Pvt) Ltd launched its local brand Ayubovan Tea for both the local and export market yesterday in Colombo.

Asia Tea (Pvt) Ltd Chairman Sathis Nawaratne told the Daily News Business that Sri Lanka has a long history for producing best quality tea for the world market.

“But Sri Lankans were some what forced to drink ‘leftovers’ from exports,” he said.

He said that their intention is to provide superior tea for Sri Lankan customers at a competitive price.

The newly launched product will be available at Keells and Arpico Super Centres and later will be introduced to other shops throughout the country. The Asia Tea (Pvt) Ltd has been engaged in exporting tea for many countries including Middle-East, Russia, South Africa and West Africa.

At least 175 to 200 companies are exporting tea for the international market.

He also said that the name, Ayubovan was selected to express the true roots of the tea.
