Book launch
Thilaka Kudahetti's latest book Sasara Serisara was launched at
Dayawansa Jayakody Bookshop, Colombo 10 on October 25 at 10 a.m. Sasara
Serisara is the Sinhala translation of Dr Brian Weiss's Only Love is
Real. It is a Dayawansa Jayakody publication.
The National Trust lecture
The National Trust lecture is on October 27 at 6.30 pm at the Sri
Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science ( SLAAS ) at 120/10
Vidya Mawatha, Off Wijerama Mawatha , Colombo 7 . Vidya Mawatha is the
road almost directly opposite ICTAD on Wijerama Mawatha.
The lecture is on ‘A Twelfth Century Hospital at Polonnaruva and the
Surgical Instruments Found Therein’ by Prof. P.L. Prematilleke and Prof.
Arjuna Aluwihare.
This lecture would be particularly interesting as the hospital was
discovered under the leadership of Prof. Prematilleke when he was the
Director of the UNESCO-Sri Lanka Cultural Triangle in Polannuruva.
Surgeon Prof. Arjuna Aluwihare will speak on the surgical instruments
found at the site.
Dhananjani’s Bharatha Natyam concert in Horana

Dhananjani Nadishani Weerakone, a Dance Special undergraduate at the
University of Sri Jayawardenepura, will hold her Bharatha Natyam concert
at Horana Sripalee theatre on October 29 at 4.45 pm. An old girl of
Horana Sripalee College, Dhananjani studied dance under Dance Visharada
Asanka Ranaweera Vithanage.
Professors Saman Chandra Ranasinghe and Karunaratne Bandara will
grace the event as the Chief Guests.

The Drama and Art and the Visual Art Section of the Kelaniya
University’s 2010 diploma course students’ certificate presentation
ceremony will be held at the JDA Perera Gallery, University of Aesthetic
Education, on October 27 at 4 pm.
Kelaniya University Vice Chancellor Prof Sarath Amunugama will be the
Chief Guest at the event. Colombo University Bioscience lecturer Prof
Sarath Kotagama will make a speech.
An exhibition by the diploma holders titled Vilokana 2011 will be
launched. Around 25 diploma holders will take part in the event. It will
be open to the public on October 29 and 30.
Septuagenarian’s seventieth painting
Renowned artist M Chandrapala’s 15th solo art exhibition will
commence at Lionel Wendt Art Gallery on October 28. This exhibition is
named as Seventieth (70th) and arrangements have been made to display 70
artistic creations to mark the artist’s 70th birthday.
This art exhibition will be declared open by Professor Albert
Dharmasiri on October 28 at 3.30 pm. The exhibition will be open for
public till 7 pm on October 29 and 30 from 10 am.
The artist has attempted to depict the importance of peace,
brotherhood, mercy, love and the good side of life and enjoyment through
his creations vividly and artistically.
Born in Veyangoda in Gampaha district M Chandrapala is a graduate of
the University of Kelaniya.
He has followed a course on Art at Heywood Institute. He has held 14
solo art exhibitions. So far Chandrapala’s artistic creations have been
selected to represent Sri Lanka for the international art exhibitions
held in Bangaladesh, Bulgaria and India.
The art lovers in Sri Lanka and abroad have selected many paintings
drawn by Chandrapala for their personal art galleries and residences.

ANCL photographer Prasanna C Vithanage will present his second solo
exhibition titled Kanda Udarata Sobaha Dahame Asariya (Upcountry Natural
Beauty) will be held at the Kandy City Centre from October 27 to 30.
Photographs exhibit the alluring landscapes and historic backdrop of the
hill country. |
