Up to 1,000 feared dead in Turkey quake
An earthquake of 7.3 magnitude rocked eastern
Turkey Sunday, with a seimological institute estimating up to 1,000
people could lie dead under the rubble of dozens of collapsed
buildings. The powerful quake, the strongest to hit the country in
years, and its aftershocks struck Van, a large eastern city
populated mainly by Kurds.

Saudi crown prince was ‘valued friend’ of US - Obama
US President Barack Obama offered condolences to
Saudi Arabia on Saturday after the death of Crown Prince Sultan bin
Abdul Aziz, calling him a “valued friend” who helped cement ties
between the allies. “He was a strong supporter of the deep and
enduring partnership between our two countries forged almost seven
decades ago,” Obama said in a statement, adding that he learned of
the crown prince’s death with “great regret.”

Nepali capital to cope with street waste
Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) officials will
patrol the streets of Nepali capital Kathmandu Valley from Sunday to
prevent people from disposing their waste recklessly and take action
against those who are caught doing so. “Each team will comprise
metro police and KMC officials. They are to patrol certain areas of
the metropolis tomorrow (Sunday) around 6.30 am,” Rabin Man Shrestha,
deputy chief at the Environment Management Department, KMC, was
quoted by The Himalayan Times as saying. “We have enforced a rule
that garbage is to be collected from the streets before 7.00 am,”
said Shrestha.
