Fernando and Nadushani marathon champions

Both championships of the National Youth Marathon races (Men and Women) 2011 organised by the National Youth Services Council were won by W G L Fernando (men) from Puttalam District and W M P R N Nadushani (women) from Puttalam District recently held at Homagama.

These races were conducted to coincide with the National Youth Sports Festival 2011 to be held from October 27 to 30.

They will be awarded and rewarded at the 23rd National Youth Sports Festival to be held on October 30 at 3 pm under the patronage of the Prime Minister D M Jayaratne at Diyagama Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium. Ninety nine sportsmen and 58 sportswomen representing all districts took part in the races.

The Distance of the Men’s Race is 42 km and women’s race is 21 km.

The races were started from Homagama Town and took the route along Awissawella via High Level Road and ended at the starting point.
