Illegal gem miners arrested

Two men were arrested while engaging in illegal gem mining in ‘Kiri Ella Ganga’ near Watawala Red bridge. The raid was carried out by the elite Special Task Force (STF), Horana on a tip-off.


Exhibition

Muslim Aid Sri Lanka (MASL), a British based INGO, will celebrate Muslim Aid Day under the theme of “Universal Primary Education” by hosting an exhibition at the Public Library Auditorium in November. It will display works of the 157 children. It sponsors through the Rainbow Family Programme, which helps orphaned children or those coming from destitute homes pursue their education.


Blood donation

A blood donation campaign organized by the Kelaniya YMBA in collaboration with the Lions Club of Kelaniya will be held at the YMBA hall, Kiribathgoda, Kelaniya on October 23 from 9 am to 4 pm. A diabetes clinic will also be held on the same day.


Medical camp

A medical camp organized by the Association for Thoughts and Activities will be held at the Kalutara Police Station premises on Saturday. The event is sponsored by the Serendib Foundation for Relief and Development. It is conducted with the assistance of the Kalutara Police. Twelve specialist doctors will attend the camp. A similar camp will be held at Bondupitiya, Dharga Town in Kalutara on Sunday.


Two die in accident

A driver and his assistant died when their bowser carrying liquid tar along the Colombo-Kandy road skidded and crashed into a house at the Parquet bend near the 25 km post around 4 am yesterday. A woman, resident of the house injured in the accident was admitted to the Gampaha hospital.


Literary Evening

Madeleine Wightman, writer, critic and editing professional will deliver a lecture at the ICES Auditorium, 2, Kynsey Terrace, Colombo 8 on “Social Realism in Literature” on October 24 at 5.30 p.m.


Plant show

Supiri Mal Dakma Exhibition organized by Punya and sale of Plants will be held on October 21, 22 and 23 at the Battaramulla near Waters Edge (Parliament Roundabout) from 9 am to 7 pm.
