Death anniversary of Gamini Dissanayake

The 17 death anniversary of the late Gamini Dissanayake former Minister of Lands, Land Development and Mahaweli Development, Minister of Plantation Industries and UNP candidate for 1994 presidential election falls on October 23, 2011.

A commemoration ceremony will be held on Sunday October 23, 2011 at 9 am at the site of the statue of late Gamini Dissanayake at Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha, Colombo 7.

An "Anusasana" will be given and "Pirith" chanted by the Theras of Jayawardanaramaya, Cotta Road, Borella. Special commemoration speeches will be given by the minister of Agriculture Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena and UNP deputy leader Karu Jayasuriya.

Floral Tributes will be placed by members of the family, Members of Parliament, board of directors of the Gamini Dissanayake Foundation and members of the commemoration society and School bags with accessories will be distributed to 75 "Daham Pasal" schoolchildren. On Monday October 24, 2011 the Gamini Dissanayake Institute of Technology and Vocational Studies in Nuwara Eliya will conduct a "Dharma Desana" in the morning. A commemoration speech will be given by Kapila Yakandawela to the students of the Institute, and the students of the Institute will be distributing dry rations to low income families in the Hawa Eliya area.

A "Bodhi Pooja" will be held in the evening at Asokaramaya Temple, by the students of the Institute on Monday October 24, 2011.
