Colombo Port records 7.1 pc increase

The JCT and UCT of the Colombo Port have shown a 7.1 percent increase in operation during the last 10 months compared to the first 10 months last year.

As a result, ship handling by the Colombo Port had increased 6.9 percent and container handling by 6.9 percent compared to last year’s figures, said Ports and Highways Deputy Minister Rohitha Abeygunewardane addressing the press at the Ministry on Wednesday.

He said vehicle handling has become one of the major operations of the Colombo Port in recent times. Handling of vehicle imports had increased by 156 percent during this period. Handling of car imports which was 26,765 had increased to 68,853 during the last ten months of this year.
