Sylvestrians in strong position

A chanceless knock of 92 with 14 fours and a six off 101 balls by Faiz Ahamed helped St Sylvester's College to have better of the exchanges at the end of the first day's play in their inter-school cricket match against Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala which began at Open Prison Grounds, Pallekele yesterday. The match will be continued today at 9.15 am.

When the Devans batted they were up against the spin of Dushan Malalasena, who ran through the cream of their batting to capture 6 for 50 and he was supported by the left arm spin of Sumedha Dissanayake, who took 2 for 21.

Maliyadeva College: 177 all out in 50 overs (P Gunatilleke 43, P Dhanushka 28, L K Francisco 34, Sumedha Dissanayake 2 for 21, Dushan Malalasena 6 for 50).
