Old Bens Veterans meet Mazedonians at soccer
Old Bens veterans meet Old Mazedonians in their annual encounter to
be played in Kotahena on October 16 (Sunday) 2011.
The Old Bens team will be led by that evergreen Waldo Fernando who
captained the St Benedict's College team in 1978 and toured Bangladesh
with the Sri Lanka Youth team.
The Old Bens team will be chosen from the following, Johnson Fernando
(Goal keeper), Tony Anandappa, Ravi Alphonso, Athula Perera, Samatha
Fernnado, Jude Peiris, Sharmen Caldera, Donald Fernando, Sisira Kumara
Perera, Nevile Perera, Nishantha Perera (energetic coordinating
secretary), Adrian Vindurampulle, Mohan Saverimuttu, K. Ravi, Sajith
Gomez, Nishan Caldera, D. Srikanth, Wilfred Fernando (G.K), Sudhagar
Nattar, Ramesh Kumar, Lakshman Caldera (player cum coach) Vijitha Perera,
T. Valentine and Anura De Silva, a former Sri Lanka Captain as the
Manager.
The Mazedonian team will be captained by Murphy De Sliva, with
Provincial Councillor Milroy Perera as the manager and rest of the team
comprises, Reginald De Franz (Coach cum vice captain) and that dynamic
player of yester year Susantha Payo, G. Devaraj, Kithsiri Perera, Sunil
Fernando, Srinath Gunesekera, Lakshman De Silva, Aubrey Gray, Lalantha
Kumara (Goal Keeper) Upul Perera, Frank De Silva, Ajith Perera (G.K),
Rohitha Costa, Jeeva Fernando, Matelo Miranda, Chandi Amerasekera, Anura
De Silva and Sandagomi Karunaratne.
Last year the Old Bens veterans won the match at the Mazedonian den
beating them by 3 goals 1. The Chief guest will be Thilak Peiris -
Managing Director JNP Holdings Ltd. "Captain Cool" of the unbeaten 1967
team.
He was presented with the star award for soccer in 1967. He toured
Manila and Bangkok with the Sri Lanka Youth team foir the Asian Youth
Soccer tournament He is also a founder member and a past president of
the Sri Lanka Soccer Masters Association of Sri Lanka.
Guests of honour will be Amal Raj Miranda, another past captain and
star of St Benedicts College team in the late sixties and a founder
member of the Old Bens over 40's soccer group and president of the Old
Bens Sports Club Tony Ganlath.
The match will be followed by a social among members of both teams at
the Old Bens Sports Club. |
