'Text books will be distributed on time'

The Education Publications Department of the Education Ministry will
complete the distribution process of school text books prior to the
commencement of the school vacation in December, Education Publications
Commissioner NMJ Pushpakumara said.
The commissioner said, all measures are in place to hand over all
required school text books to every student in time.
Accordingly, text books for 2012 are being dispatched to provincial
distribution centres aiming to complete the text book distribution
process by the end of November.
The Education Publications Department has taken steps to print 34
million copies of school text books which are required for 2012. Of this
amount, a large number of books have already been printed and received
by the Education Publications Department.
The Education Ministry has allocated Rs. 3,000 million for the
printing process. Last year's text book requirement was 27 million.
"The Education Publications Department has targeted to complete the
printing by the end of October. Printed text books are being dispatched
regularly to provincial distribution centres to ensure the smooth
functioning of the distribution process. The Education Publication
Department is concern of the deadlines since text books have to be in
students' hands on time," Pushpakumara noted.
Meanwhile, the Education Publications Department has taken several
measures to increase the quality of school text books as there were some
issues relating to the quality of text books.
The Education Sector Development Project of the World Bank is also
assisting in improving the quality of text books. |
