No restrictions on foreign investments - Minister GL

External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris yesterday said that safety of foreign investment is guaranteed by the constitution.

Addressing the inauguration of Sri Lanka Vietnam Business Forum in Colombo, the minister said foreign investments are guaranteed protection by the constitution. The Sri Lanka Vietnam Business forum was established to promote closer innovation in the field of trade, tourism and investment between the two countries.

"Every foreign investment is guaranteed and protected by the constitutional guarantee. No restrictions whatsoever have been imposed on foreign investments" the minister said.

'As there is no restrictions for foreign investments every cent earned by foreign investors can be brought out of the country. Board of Investment (BOI) is a government body which stands for smooth functioning of investments. Unlike many other countries, Sri Lanka has a conducive environments for investors. Sri Lanka has made tremendous progress in the fields of financing, banking and education. Sri Lanka has a highly skilled workforce for any sort of investment.

The minister said that, the Business Forum will assist to strengthen the relationship between the two countries. Moreover, the Forum will strengthen the economies of both countries simultaneously. More than 20,000 foreign investors in Vietnam have provided 1 million employment opportunities too Vietnames people. Vietnam President Troung Tan Sang also spoke.
