Express bus service

An express bus service from Point Pedro to Jaffna via Nelliyaddy will be started soon, said K Kulabalaselvam, Point Pedro Bus Depot Manager to the press.

Two buses have been bought on lease. An express Point-Pedro Jaffna bus service was in operation 30 years ago. Office goers, teachers and businessmen were benefited by this service.

In the 70s there was a simultaneous bus service every hour from Point Pedro to Jaffna. A similar service will be started soon, said the Point Pedro Bus Depot Manager Kulabalaselvam.


Employee disappears with Rs 20,000

An employee of a trade stall in the Dambulla Dedicated Economic Centre, has disappeared with Rs 20,000. The chairman of the Dambulla farmers company R B Herath had complained to the Dambulla Police regarding the theft. Police investigations are continuing.


Death of G M Wickramasinghe

The death occurred of former Lake House senior journalist G M Wickramasinghe. He was 74.

He retired as a Deputy Editor of the Sunday Observer after completing a full time career in journalism. G M Wickramasinghe also worked on the Daily News.

The funeral takes place at 4 pm today at the Wethara Cemetery. The remains lie at 61/11, Old Road, Wethara, Polgasovita.


Paying gratitude in a deadly way

Three persons who were given food and accommodation by an old woman at Vaddakachchi Hudson road had hacked the woman to death and gold jewels in her house had been stolen on October 8.

The Kilinochchi Police have on suspicion arrested three persons.

They have recovered the weapon used in the murder. They will be produced before the Kilinochchi Magistrate. The deceased is Helen Mary Taeresa.
