Bail to Lankan team attack mastermind challenged
The Punjab Prosecution Department on Monday moved a petition in the
Supreme Court of Lahore registry, seeking cancellation of the bail
granted to Malik Muhammad Ishaq, the alleged mastermind of the 2009
attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team.
The department submitted in the petition that certain aspects of the
case were not presented before the court. A two-member bench of the
Supreme Court on July 10 had granted bail to Ishaq who belonged to the
banned outfit Sipah-i-Sahaba that paved the way for his release from
jail after 12 years.
The bench of Justice MA Shahid Siddiqui and Justice Asif Saeed Khan
Khosa had also expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the
prosecution in establishing its case against the accused.
Meanwhile, the prosecution department had also moved two petitions in
the Lahore High Court for cancellation of bails granted to Mohsin Rafiq
and Ishfaq, both accused of attacking Sri Lanka cricket team.
