National Children’s Drama Festival 2011

The National Children’s Drama Festival 2011 was held at the John de
Silva Theatre on October 6. Showcasing talents of budding child artistes
from across the island this year’s festival this presented plays in
Sinhala, Tamil and English.
The event was organised by the Culture and Arts Ministry, Cultural
Affairs Department and the State Drama panel. Around 41 plays in the
limited and open categories were staged from September 10 to 20. Around
25 Sinhala dramas, 10 Tamil dramas and six English dramas comprised the
line up. This was the first time in history that the children’s dramas
from all languages were staged on one platform at the event.
It also marked the highest participation of children’s dramas
producers from the North and East. The festival is open to the public
and is free of charge.
Speaking at the event Culture and Arts Minister T B Ekanayake said
that children’s talents, creativity and new ideas nurture the industry.
The National Children’s Drama Festival is held for the 16th year.
