Wari Desathiya in full swing

The islandwide Wari Desathiya programme designed by the Agrarian
Services and wildlife ministry had been successful in the Anuradhapura
district.
The programme was initiated on September 26, on the instructions of
Agrarian Services minister S. M. Chandrasena.
The programme includes the reinforcement of the rural tank bunds,
jungle clearing around the tank bunds and the canal systems, removal of
anthills, implementing protective measures to stop erosion of the bunds,
repairs to the sluice gates and restoration of roads. The purpose of
launching the programme is to invigorate farmer organizations.
The economic development ministry, Irrigation and water management
Ministry and the Agrarian Services Ministry are implementing the
programme.

Palugaswewa told the Daily News that under the programme, rehabilitation
work of the Ambagahawewa tank in Nochchiyagama area began at a cost of
Rs 7 million. |
