In achieving peace:
Ven Thera commends Mahinda Chinthanaya
The Sri Lanka Nippon Educational and Cultural Centre (SLNECC),
General Secretary and Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte Chief Sanghanayake,
Meegahatanne Chandrasiri Nayaka Thera, addressed a special gathering of
members of the Japanese Parliament at the Japanese Parliamentary complex
recently.
This has been the first opportunity where a Sri Lankan Buddhist
priest had been given an opportunity to make a speech within the
Japanese Parliamentary complex. This assembly was convened at the Silver
Hall No. 3 by Sri Lanka Japan Friendship Association president and
Parliamentary Party Coordinating Secretary in the Japanese Parliament,
Hirano Hirofumi.
Ven Chandrasiri Thera commended the practicability and excellence of
the Mahinda Chinthana in achieving the long awaited peace for Sri Lanka
while reiterating the historical cordial ties between Japan and Sri
Lanka and its contribution towards the development of Sri Lanka.
He further explained that the SLNECC had conducted foster-parent
schemes for children in need of financial assistance, Japanese
scholarship schemes, pre-schools, health services, IT training centres
and apprenticeship training centres during the past 25 years with the
participation and assistance of 3,000 Japanese families. The SLNECC
based in Sri Mahindaramaya in Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte, has 117
regional centres established throughout the country.
The SLNECC has been able to obtain the assistance of Japanese
families for the development of education, cultural and other standards
of children of remote villages in the country. Sri Lankan Ambassador in
Japan Wasantha Karannagoda and Counsellor Chandana Weerasena also
participated at this event. |
