In achieving peace:

Ven Thera commends Mahinda Chinthanaya

The Sri Lanka Nippon Educational and Cultural Centre (SLNECC), General Secretary and Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte Chief Sanghanayake, Meegahatanne Chandrasiri Nayaka Thera, addressed a special gathering of members of the Japanese Parliament at the Japanese Parliamentary complex recently.

This has been the first opportunity where a Sri Lankan Buddhist priest had been given an opportunity to make a speech within the Japanese Parliamentary complex. This assembly was convened at the Silver Hall No. 3 by Sri Lanka Japan Friendship Association president and Parliamentary Party Coordinating Secretary in the Japanese Parliament, Hirano Hirofumi.

Ven Chandrasiri Thera commended the practicability and excellence of the Mahinda Chinthana in achieving the long awaited peace for Sri Lanka while reiterating the historical cordial ties between Japan and Sri Lanka and its contribution towards the development of Sri Lanka.

He further explained that the SLNECC had conducted foster-parent schemes for children in need of financial assistance, Japanese scholarship schemes, pre-schools, health services, IT training centres and apprenticeship training centres during the past 25 years with the participation and assistance of 3,000 Japanese families. The SLNECC based in Sri Mahindaramaya in Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte, has 117 regional centres established throughout the country.

The SLNECC has been able to obtain the assistance of Japanese families for the development of education, cultural and other standards of children of remote villages in the country. Sri Lankan Ambassador in Japan Wasantha Karannagoda and Counsellor Chandana Weerasena also participated at this event.
