Azwer slams vicious UNP rumours
UPFA National List Parliamentarian A.H.M. Azwer yesterday vehemently
condemned the vicious and malicious propaganda carried out by the UNP to
mislead the Muslims of Hambantota to obtain their votes.
He said the UNP was spreading a canard to say that there was a plan
by the government to demolish the mosque in New Town Hambantota which
was destroyed by the tsunami.
The MP pointed out that it was against the law of the land to spread
this kind of rumour to create communal and religious discord among
communities.
“This type of propaganda spread by rumour mongers is liable to be
punished by the law.”
Azwer said he has reported the matter to the OIC Hambantota police
station.
Addressing a series of meetings in Hambantota, the MP warned Muslim
voters not to be misled by these vicious and inflammatory propaganda. He
said the bankrupt UNP which has run out of political slogans has started
resorting to this type of shameless propaganda like a drowning man
clinging on to any object to keep himself afloat.
Azwer maintained that instead of demolishing the said mosque, the
government with the help of the Muslims of Hambantota has already built
a new beautiful mosque replacing the destroyed one at the same site.
Having miserably failed to win over the Colombo Muslims, the UNP, he
said, has decided to go all the way down to Hambantota to resume its
vicious campaign of falsehoods and deception in a futile exercise to
lift its waning electoral fortunes. |
