Students discipline

Some months back one girl in a reputed school in Colombo committed suicide over an incident occurred due to a mobile phone. As a result, the government banned using mobile phones in schools not only by students and also by the teachers. Many argued that the child committing suicide must be dealt with a proper inquiry beyond the ban of mobiles in schools. This ban is strictly been followed by the teachers and it is a commonly seen that teachers are using the phones irrespective of this ban which show that this is a ban which is not practicable.

Mobiles are strictly banned in a school located in Negombo area. If anyone is caught with a mobile in school the said mobile is confiscated and left in school Principals office where the childs parent will need to physically go to school and sign for its return. There is a large cupboard located in the room with almost full of phones. Though the parents could meet the principal and request the phone back, according to the Principal it never happens as they do not like to face the Principal.

So mobile phones, any kind of electronic equipment such as iPods, mp3 players or portable game players are strictly prohibited from school. The tone and the manner this prohibition is conducted under work well to keep it running smoothly. This is nothing but discipline.

In my view, CHILDREN DO NOT NEED MOBILES IN SCHOOL

Discipline is the key to success - this saying holds true for all times and for all people of all age groups. But for students it holds a great value. In contemporary times there are so many temptations that can lure a student away from his basic objective in life. You can be almost anything you want, if you are self-disciplined.

Once you are self-disciplined, you could continue with your studies much more effectively and finally could end-up with good academic results. Self-discipline students will receive the blessings from everyone especially from the teachers.

Not only for students, self-discipline is very important for everyone living in this world. With discipline, you can solve almost any problem, including losing weight, overcoming addiction and saving money. Despite the benefits, few people ever incorporate this into their lives. We all know the problems we want to overcome, but because of procrastination and disorder, we are unable to fix them which are the very reason we say that procrastination is a crime.

Discipline is your ultimate tool for personal empowerment. It means taking control and getting your life in order. You need to commit to doing this, now and honor that commitment to yourself. Life is too short to put it off any longer.

Once you become self-disciplined, your life will improve dramatically. You will be able to plan your days and have time set aside for being creative. You will be much more focused, which means your brain will work better and faster. You will also have a lot more time for relaxation, because you will use your time efficiently.

Your life will never blossom until it is focused, dedicated and disciplined. Success, you will discover, is nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced every day. Combine self-discipline with passion for what you are doing, personal goals and good organization and you will reach your human potential.

The glittering world of advertisement, the glamorous world of modelling and cinema unfold a new era in front of young people and they are wooed by the glamour. Those of us who are not wise enough to think rationally will be swept off our feet and carried away by the fast paced winds of change.

It is good to change; I am certainly not against changing. But the million-dollar question is, how much to change, when to change and, above all, why do we need to change?

These are the questions young minds should put to themselves before they blindly follow the latest trends. Everything that glitters is certainly not gold and many a times what does not glitter and does not catch one’s fancy might be more precious than gold. Before being swept off by changing winds, a student should think and consciously choose which path to follow. Apart from these, web chatting also takes up much of a youngster’s time.

At a student’s level, where there is cut-throat competition and time is extremely precious, these can prove to be real obstacles to overcome. Self-discipline is something students should aim to achieve. It is not a commodity one can buy from the market.

It is a rare quality which one has to inculcate, nurture and cherish from early childhood. Through self-discipline will come concentration which will in turn help a student to scale newer heights of academic excellence. Success will be theirs for the taking who value and practice self-discipline and abide by it at all times.

Temptations are always there. Only the forms of temptations change. But those of us who learn the subtle art of self-discipline and self-constraint, nothing can prevent us from attaining our goals in life. Let us all aim to be a little more self-disciplined from henceforth.

It does not require a lot of research to tell us that discipline in school is different today than it was in the 1950s. But certain valid investigations have shown that students who act up in school express a variety of reasons for doing so:

Some think that teachers do not care about them.

Others do not want to be in school at all.

They do not consider goal setting and success in school important anymore.

Students are unaware that their adolescent behaviours will result in punishment they will not like.

Discipline enforcers have to go through long procedures of due process: hearings, specific charges, witnesses and appeals.

Despite these hurdles, students agree that discipline is needed in schools. One high school student stated: “If there were no discipline, the school would not be distinguished from the street.”

So if everyone agrees that discipline is a key to safety in school, why do we still have a problem?
