Ceylinco Healthcare Centre offers special breast care packages in October

Women on either side of age 40 will be the focus of a special initiative announced by the Ceylinco Healthcare Centre for October, the month dedicated universally to promoting breast cancer awareness.

The Centre will offer two breast cancer screening packages at a concessionary price throughout the month, one for women above 40 years and the other for those below 40.

The package for the above 40 group includes a mammogram, breast scan and consultation with a doctor for a cancer risk assessment and a physical examination.

The package for women below 40 consists of a consultation session and breast scan, the Centre said.

During October, shoppers at ODEL Alexandra Place will also receive a free voucher when they make payments for purchases over Rs 5,000.

The voucher will entitle them to a waiver of the consultation fee when they purchase either of these packages at the Ceylinco Healthcare Centre.

All female policyholders of Ceylinco Life who purchase the special packages will also receive the consultation and risk assessment free of charge, the Centre announced.

Elaborating on the need for initiatives such as this, the Senior Medical Officer at the Centre, Dr. Shyama Fernando said: “Statistics on cancer in Sri Lanka indicate that of the 15,000 new cancer cases detected annually, 7500 are breast cancer, and that 30 per cent of patients die because detection is too late.

“We are promoting the importance of screening because self examination with regular mammograms can detect up to 90 percent of breast cancers at an early stage.”

Appointments for consultations and screening packages can be made over the telephone.

Visitors to the Centre during October will also receive a pink ribbon, the international symbol of breast cancer awareness.

The Ceylinco Healthcare Centre’s Breast Care Unit has a specialised breast care clinic that provides consultation, cancer risk assessment and advice on how to prevent or minimise complications associated with breast cancer through regular self-examination.

It has its own waiting areas for visitors as well as a dedicated area for doctor consultations and investigations and seeks to provide a comfortable non-hospital atmosphere to people who visit for screening and treatment.

Located on Park Street, Colombo 02, the Centre offers services ranging from history-based risk assessment to clinical examination, mammography, ultrasound investigation as well as multi-modal treatment options.

Established in collaboration with the world renowned Washington Hospital Centre, the Ceylinco Healthcare Centre is a ground-breaking project of Ceylinco Healthcare Services Ltd., (CHSL) a subsidiary of Ceylinco Life, the country’s leading life insurer.
