SL-China Society photographic exhibition to mark 61st National Day
The Sri Lanka-China Society in collaboration with the Embassy of the
People’s Republic of China, Colombo, is organizing a photographic
exhibition depicting the modern socio-economic, sport and cultural
developments in China to mark its 61st National Day.
The exhibition will be held on September 30 and October 1, 2011 from
9 am to 6 pm at the exhibition centre of the Public Library premises,
Colombo. Entry is free of charge.
Maha Bodhi Society annual symposium
Ridma DISSANAYAKE
The 114th annual symposium of the Indian Maha Bodhi Society which is
chaired by Bhutan Prime Minister Jigme Y.Thinley will be held today at
the Indian Maha Bodhi headquarters, Sri Dharmarajika Chethya temple in
Kolkata, India.
Indigenous Medicine Minister Salinda Dissanayake will be the chief
guest and will deliver the keynote speech at the symposium at 5.30 pm
(Indian time) today.
Indian Chief Incumbent and Indian Maha Bodhi Society General
Secretary Prof Dodamgoda Rewatha Nayake thera will also participate.
Pirith chanting
The Public Administration and Home Affairs Ministry will hold an all
night Pirith chanting ceremony today on the instructions of Public
Administration and Home Affairs Minister W D J Seneviratne.
The Pirith chanting ceremony will be held to mark the 40th
anniversary of the Public Administration and Home Affairs Ministry.
Dana will be offered to the Maha Sangha tomorrow. The religious
activities is organized by the Buddhist Society of the ministry.
US Congressman Steven Chabot visits SL
The United States Embassy in Colombo hosted US Congressman Steven
Chabot, Republican from Ohio’s First District, from September 27 to 29.
Congressman Chabot is the Chairman of the House Subcommittee on the
Middle East and South Asia.
While in Colombo, Congressman Chabot met with the External Affairs
Minister G L Peiris, Members of Parliament including members of the Sri
Lanka - US Parliamentary Friendship Committee, civil society leaders and
Embassy staff. |
