Chinese charged for child abuse

A Chinese national was held in detention for the charge of child abuse till September 30 by Aluthkade Magistrate.

The suspect aged 46, had allegedly abused a 16-year-old-boy from Hokandara North. Athurugiriya police are investigating.


Deadly fall from motorcycle

A woman who fell off a motorcycle, succumbed to her injuries at Chilaw hospital. The pillion rider was travelling with her son when she fell off the motorcycle at Thambarombuwa in Inginimitiya.


Netted for transporting timber

Army officers of 61 Division seized a consignment of satinwood and arrested five persons while they were illegally transporting the stock of timber in Vavuniya.

The Army also took into custody the tractor and two chain saws. The suspects and implements were handed over to Mankulam police for further investigations.


Beaten to death

A man was beaten to death in Oyarsinnakulam, Vavuniya following a heated argument between two groups. Y. Kamal Raj (40) of Thandikulam succumbed to his injuries when he was beaten with wooden batons following an argument, according to police. Vavuniya police arrested five suspects who were remanded till October 10 by the Vavuniya Magistrate.


Motorcyclist dies in accident

A motorcyclist hit by a lorry at the Kelaniya flyover, died on admission to the Colombo National Hospital. He was riding from Dematagoda to Peliyagoda on Monday.

P.A. Dhanasiri (52) is a resident of Pamunuwila, Gonawela. The driver of the lorry was produced before Aluthkade Magistrate and remanded until September 30.

The Grandpass police are investigating.
