United States Congressman Steve
Chabot called on Professor G L Peiris, Minister of External
Affairs, at his official residence for a discussion of
current developments in the country and bilateral relations
with the United States. Chabot is chairman of the House
Foreign Affairs Sub Committee on the Middle East and South
Asia and has served as Congressman in Ohio’s First
Congressional district for 15 years. Chabot, who is one of
the leading advocates in Congress for fiscal responsibility,
is undertaking a visit to Sri Lanka for the first time. Prof
Peiris briefed the Congressman, among other matters, on the
extensive range of discussions which the Sri Lankan
delegation, led by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, had in New
York on the sidelines of the United Nations General
Assembly. Patricia A Butenis, ambassador of the United
States in Sri Lanka and Sajin de Vaas Gunawardena, MP were
present at the discussion. |

Vehicles of parents bringing children
to an educational institution is causing immense
inconvenience to the residents of a housing scheme at
Maddumagewatte. Residents are unable to take the sick to
hospitals, attend weddings, courts etc on account of being
delayed. This is for the attention of the authorities. |
