Fish Culture Village project begins

The inauguration ceremony of the Moda Fish Culture Villages was held
in Trincomalee under the patronage of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources
Development Deputy Minister Susantha Punchinilame recently.
The Moda Fish Culture Villages were introduced by the Fisheries and
Aquatic Resources Development Ministry with the aim of uplifting
livelihoods of the fisheries community in the North and East.
These Moda Fish Culture Villages in Dimuthu village, Willawan in
Trincomalee will benefit over 1,300 fisher families.
Twenty five fisher families have been selected in the first stage.
Fish tanks, other infrastructure facilities and ownership certificates
were distributed by the deputy minister. Instruction and services for
the success of the project will be provided by the Aqua Green
Corporation. The Bank of Ceylon will provide loan facilities.
The deputy minister distributed two fish tanks and 900 fingerlings
for each family and harvest will be received within six months.
