Carlton – Colombo clash in qualifying game

Carlton Cup Basketball Championship will see its first ‘A’ Division
qualifying game for the grand final being worked off this evening at the
Police Park courts between reigning champion Carlton BC which is
unbeaten and in top of the group-A with the last year’s runner up
Colombo BC who are ranked number one, winning all their matches in Group
‘B’. Both teams were unbeaten in their respective groups and will
showcase a tough battle in the first qualifier. Carlton BC moved up to
the top of group ‘A’ by defeating Navy BC, Old Bens BC, Colombo Bulls BC
and Otters BC in their group matches while Colombo BC became number one
in group ‘B’ by beating Air Force BC, Army BC, Police BC and Wattala BC
in their early meetings.
Meanwhile the Invitation Under-13 Schools Tournament will dribble off
today morning at the Police Depot with 26 boys’ teams and 16 girls’
teams lined up for the event. The junior event will be conducted on a
knock-out format and will be concluded tomorrow. |
