Southern Monsoon Rally through the wilderness of the South

All is set for the 'journey through the wilderness of the South', the
Southern Monsoon Rally which is expected to provide maximum
entertainment for spectators in over 50 towns in three districts today
and tomorrow.
Best of rallying will raise the dust through the roads in remote
villages while last year's champion driver Shafraz Junaid will once
again battle it out to retain his crown along with the co-driver at the
event which starts in front of the Sanath Jayasuriya Stadium in Matara
at 7.00 p.m.
The rally is organized by the Southern Motor Sports Club for the 12th
time.
The skills of the drivers and co-drivers will be put to the test
while they drive over 600 kilometers through some of the most exciting
landscapes, the flat lands,wilds of the South.
The route of the rally, plotted by Andrew Silva for the 14th
successive year, is expected to contain some of the best twists and
turns along with the speedy stretches. There will be three stages, from
Matara to Udawalawa, Udawalawa to Hambantota and Hambantota to Matara.
SMSC will present trophies to the winners of the individual events
and the overall winners, the stage prizes (for the first, second and
thiid of rally stages/ category prizes - novices/pro, cars/jeeps and
overall prizes for the first 10 places.
There will also be some cash prizes on offer. The awards ceremony
will be held at the Polhena Reef Garden Hotel, Matara tomorrow evenning.
