Housing construction gets Rs 4,000m - Wimal

Rs 4,000 million was invested to construct houses this year while Rs
150 million was invested in 2009, Housing, Construction, Common
Amenities and Engineering Services Minister Wimal Weerawansa said.
He was speaking at a ceremony to present Rs 15.3 million among 102
families in Kolonnawa.
The minister said that the ministry invested Rs 2,553 million for
housing projects this year with agreements with state banks.
"The Janasevana Housing Project has become a project that is close to
the hearts of the people. Steps are being taken to provide a sustainable
solution for people's housing problem with the help of other
ministries," the minister said.
He said most developed countries have only served the upper class and
therefore these countries are now facing an economic downfall.
"The situation in Sri Lanka is different since the government is
looking after the rich and the poor," Weerawansa said.
"The government knows the heartbeat of the rural majority and that is
the secret of the government's success. This government always takes
decisions with the public in mind," the minister added. |
