CEB fines in August top Rs 23m

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has earned over Rs. 23 million through fines, imposed on illegal users of electricity in the month of August.

Of the 208 cases investigated by the CEB Special Investigations Unit August, 189 were involved in the manipulation of electricity meters. The other 19 cases were related to tapping electricity from transmission lines.

The Special Investigation Unit of the CEB which has been revamped and strengthened by Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka in his effort to transform the CEB into a viable institution. The ministry has requested public co-operation to help nab electricity pirates in their areas. They urged the public that all information about such acts can be given on 2422259.
