More LTTErs to be released

The Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms Ministry has taken measures to integrate 1000 former LTTE cadres into society by September end on the instructions of Minister Chandrasiri Gajadeera.

Approximately 2,000 LTTE combatants, who surrendered to the Security Forces, are currently being rehabilitated. Several of them are expected to be released and reintegrated into society before the end of this year.

Those cadres being rehabilitated on court orders will have their rehabilitation programme extended by another year, said Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms Ministry Secretary A Dissanayake.

According to the Secretary, there are a large number of youths age between 15-25 years in these rehabilitation centres and the ministry has given priority to young LTTE cadres in this exercise.
