'Governors play major role in development'

Western Province Governor Alavi Mowlana was appointed as the new
chairman of the Provincial Governors' Convention at the 14th Provincial
Governors' Convention held on Saturday and Sunday at the Eden Resort and
Spa in Beruwala.
Uva Province Governor C. Nanda Mathew, North Central
Province Governor Karunaratne Divulgane, Central Province
Governor Tikiri Kobbakaduwa, Eastern Province Governor Rear
Admiral Mohan Wijeywickrama, Western Province Governor Alavi
Mowlana, Southern Province Governor Kumari Balasuriya,
Wayamba Province Governor Tissa Balalla, North Province
Governor Major General G.A. Chandrasiri, Sabaragamu Province
Governor W.J.M. Lokubandara and the Secretaries of nine
Governors’ Secretariats at the Governors’ convention.

Making provincial level decisions and implementing them without
causing conflict situations is the main responsibility of the provincial
governors. They have to play a major role towards the development of the
country,said former chairman of the Provincial Governors'
Convention,Eastern Province Governor Rear Admiral Mohan Wijewickrama.
New Chairman Western Province Governor Alavi Mowlana stated that both
local and international elements are making statements against the
government and its development programmes. But all Sri Lankans should
lend their assistance to the President to make Sri Lanka the Wonder of
Asia.
Eastern Province Governor's Secretary K. Udage said that when
Governor Mohan Wijewickrama was appointed as the Chairman of the 13th
Governor's Convention there were 53 proposals including 33 which were
made at the 12th convention. Seven proposals were dropped and 32
implemented. Fourteen proposals are to be forwarded to the fourteenth
Provincial Governors' convention.
The governors of nine provinces,secretaries of governors'
offices,Director General for Budget G.G.C. Ekanayake, Finance
Commission's Chairman Ariyaratne Hewage, Secretary W.A. Munasinghe and
Local Government and Provincial Administration Ministry Senior Assistant
Secretary U.S.K. Denawatta also participated.
