Telecom launches i-Sri Lanka in Jaffna

Sri Lanka Telecom launches phase 1 of i-Sri Lanka project which is
one of the biggest projects ever undertaken in Jaffna.
Considering Jaffna to be one of the key areas in the country and the
SLT has realized the necessity to improve the infrastructure. “SLT
recognizes the need for development in Jaffna and we are launching the i-Sri
Lanka project, an initiative that will deliver to our customers
throughout the country constant and uninterrupted high speed internet
services,” SLT Chairman Nimal Welgama told Daily News Business.
“We have modernized and upgraded our SLT offices with latest
technology. SLT has laid a fiber optic cable to facilitate hi-speed
communication and several other new services. This will also
significantly increase quality and provide higher data speeds with other
benefits of lower maintenance and replacement costs,” he said.
“This is the first stage of the facility upgrade where SLT will
embark on regional service modernization, drive to ensure better service
delivery.
The re-launch of its services will add value to the customers,”
Welgama said. The i-Sri Lanka project under the theme of ‘One country
one voice’ will ensure that Sri Lankans will have access to the best
network facilities available, which will be on par with global
standards.
The i-Sri Lanka will provide high speed broadband connectivity to all
its fixed-line customers.
This will also form stronger communication links between the North
and South.
“While ensuring everyone is better connected, that this programme
will also facilitate e-learning, e-commerce and e-health platforms.
This will also help to uplift the learning and education standards of
Sri Lankans by bringing online capability to a level that was not
previously available in Sri Lanka.” |
