List of self employees handed over to ministry

The Federation of Self Employees yesterday said that the list of
persons who were engaged in self employment activities in a number of
cities where the government was going to construct marketing complexes,
had been handed over to the Economic Development Ministry for necessary
action.
According to Federation chairman Mahinda Kahadagama, the Federation
had also forwarded their request for permanent stalls in cities where
they were engaged in self employment ventures, to the ministry.
Kahadagama added that the government had already constructed five
marketing complexes in Pettah, Gunasinghapura, Hospital Street and
Nugegoda, the value of a stall exceeding more than Rs. 2 million. This
project has been implemented by the Economic Development Ministry under
the close supervision of Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa.
The Federation of Self Employees has also said that more than 1,600
pavement hawkers in the Colombo city and Nugegoda area were provided
with permanent stalls by the government and pavement hawkers in almost
all cities in the country would receive permanent stalls in the future.
Kahadagama said that the government had already spent a sum of Rs.
3,200 million for the construction of these five trading complexes,
while construction of other trading complexes in many cities too would
commence soon. |
