Forty six netted for election violence

Forty six individuals were arrested for being involved in election violence and violating election laws, Police Election Secretariat, Head Senior DIG Gamini Navaratne yesterday told the Daily News.

He said 40 complaints have been received so far and 28 were related to violations of election laws.

He also noted that four vehicles had been taken into custody. Two complaints were related to clashes within the same party.

Navaratne said the highest number of complaints were received from Mount Lavinia and Nugegoda.

He requested the supporters of candidates to adhere to election laws when engaging in election campaigns.
