No records on day three

No records were lowered at the 42nd Sir John Tarbat Junior Athletic Championship 2011 organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Athletic Association and sponsored by Milo which was continued for the third day at the Bogambara stadium, Kandy yesterday.

The meet will be continued for the fourth day today which will be also the final day.

The presentation of awards ceremony will be held today in the afternoon depending on the completion of events.

The events completed so far are mostly field events and some track events were also conducted under difficult conditions. The weather yesterday was a little better than on the first two days as only a little rain fell but the ground conditions were soggy, wet and slippery and many athletes fell while running and faster timing was out of question and this reflected in the records remaining intact.

Last year when this meet was held at Matale over ten records tumbled and Maris Stella College, Negombo won the championship for boys while St Joseph’s Girls College, Kegalle won the championship for girls.

It is still not known how these two schools had performed this year and it is left to be seen whether they could retain the championships titles which they won last year.
