Illicit hooch dealers nabbed

Officers from STF headquarters raided an illegal liquor brewery at Egoda Ekala, Ja Ela and arrested a man and a woman with illicit liquor and equipment on Tuesday.

The duo were nabbed with 1050 litres of illicit liquor. The police also found 25 fine receipts issued by court. Ja Ela police are investigating.

Meanwhile, Batticaloa, Malwaththa STF officers took into custody eleven persons who were illegally loading sand and seized three Canter vehicles at Neinakadu, Samanthurai on Tuesday. STF ASP Sisira Kumara directed the raid. SI Wijeratne and a team arrested the suspects, residents of Samanthurai and Sahindamadu who were handed over to Samanthurai Police for further investigations.

Kanthale STF personnel meanwhile took into custody 10 persons for transporting illegally felled timber near Sunnakkadu forest reserve in Bogaspitiya on Tuesday. The police also seized 12 bullock carts along with 24 bulls.

The suspects are from Kinniya who are alleged to have cut down Kon, Ketakela, Welan, Mora trees. Kanthale Police are investigating.
