United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Colombo mayoral candidate
Milinda Moragoda yesterday proposed a coordinating committee operating
under the mayor to coordinate with the central government and the
Western Provincial Council.
He observed that most public issues he came across during his
encounters with people had occurred due to the absence of an effective
mechanism to coordinate with the central government and the provincial
administration.
Addressing a press conference at the Mahaweli Centre yesterday, he
said that he has discussed this with the President. Moragoda noted that
the committee will consist of agencies responsible of handling city
issues. He said that he understood the need of this kind of coordination
mechanism after hearing to public complaints during his election
campaigns.
Moragoda said the CMC should work in harmony with the central
government and fruitful results cannot be achieved if it starts to clash
with the government.
