Senaratne relates Robin Hood tales

Marking yet another milestone in his career gifted translator Senaratne Weerasinghe bring four translations, the full series of Richard Carpenter’s well loved Robin of Sherwood series. It was subtitled in Sinhala by Titus Thotawatte.

Robin Hood has always been a favourite among the young and all. The legendary hero of English folklore stole from the rich to nourish the poor. A highly skilled archer and swordsmen, Robin had given life to many literary creations like TV series, films, ballets and literary works. “Though the time of Robin Hood can be traced back to several decades, it is one of the most popular tales of modern times. Countries like America, Russia and China even launch stamps in his names annually. He is the root of the society’s struggle to liberate itself from feudalism.

Therefore he is a universal hero,” Weerasinghe said. There are a variety of folktales embedded in the Robin Hood tales. It is penned in Weerasinghe’s own distinct and simple style and brings popular characters like the sheriff of Nottingham, Merry Men and Maid Marion to life.

Weerasinghe’s Robin Hood books comes as a package from Prabha Publications. It is available in leading book stores islandwide.
