Five netted for attack

Five people who were involved in an incident of attacking a businessman of Padukka with swords, were ordered to be remanded by the Awissawella Magistrate.

The businessman is a resident of Thuntana, Gammadda.

While returning home with his wife by a trishaw, a group of people had stopped them and attacked with swords and acid, and the businessman’s hand was chopped off from his body.

However, by an immediate surgery the hand was joined again. He is now being treated at the National hospital.

His wife too received serious burn injuries by the acid attack and is also being treated at the National hospital.

Five out of six suspects were arrested by the Padukka Police and produced before the Awissawella Magistrate Court.

One suspect is still on the loose and Crime OIC, Sub Inspector Thilakarathna and a special police team is conducting further investigations.
