Gajaba Supercross at Saliyapura:

Cream of riders and drivers in action

The cream of motor racers will be on show when the roar of fine tuned engines raise the dust at the Gajaba Regiment Centre at Saliyapura when the 10th edition of the Gajaba Supecross takes place there tomorrow.

The Gajaba Regiment Centre in Saliyapura in collaboration with Sri Lanka Association of Racing Drivers and Riders are conducting the racing extravaganza which will see over 200 riders and drivers competing in 24 events.

Major General Sumedha Perera, one of the masterminds behind the organizing of the racing extravaganza, said that the stage is set for a top class show and this will provide maximum Motorcross experience to the people in the area.

"The funds that would be raised from the event, will be user to improve the welfare of the soldiers who were causalities including families of the soldiers killed in action and disabled soldiers" said Major Perera.

The people in the area suffered a lot from a long lasting war, but with the liberation of North and East, the event is expected to attract a large number of spectators. This year's event will provide the best of racing and people will be able to view this spectacular show with freedom.

The two kilometer track at Saliyapura which has six turns, will help the racing drivers to show the best of their skills while the riders will have a more challenging track to survive.

Last year's champion Aravinda Premadasa will be challenged by promising drivers such as Pasindu Peiris and Dinesh Deheragoda. Pasindu Peiris is expected to be at his best as he was dominant in his class in the recent past. Deheragoda, the long standing champion driver will also try do his best and carry on the good work.

Top class riders of the caliber of Upulwan Serasinghe, Ashan Silva and many more will also be in action this year.

Meanwhile, last year's champion riders, Indian rider C.S. Santhosh and Lankan star Gayan Sandaruwan will battle for the crown. Gayan and Santhosh have been in battle for the last one and half years on the Lankan motorcross arena and their battle is expected to deliver some most exciting moments at the Gajaba Supercross. Santhosh's TVS teammate K.P. Aravind will also be in action, offering both of them a great challenge. Some good racing can be expected from upcoming star Shehan C. Adhikari too.

The junior riders of the calibre of the two brothers, Jaden and Aaron Gunawardena and Jacques Gunawardena will also provide entertainment to the motor racing enthusiasts.
