Robbery suspect nabbed while fleeing

A suspect fleeing after committing a robbery was arrested by policemen manning the Katubedda checkpoint at Clarence Fernando Mawatha, Moratuwa around 4.30 pm on Tuesday.

Police also seized a live hand grenade, two sharp knives and a mask from the possession of the suspect who is a resident of 2nd lane, Karapitiya, Galle, Moratuwa Police are conducting investigations. Meanwhile a person sleeping in a half completed house in Sippikulama, Hambantota where construction work is in progress, was clubbed to death on Monday night.

The deceased was identified as Pitibeddage Don Sammy Fernando, 70. The body is lying at the Hambantota hospital morgue awaiting an autopsy. Hambantota Police are investigating.
