Youth Parliament second session

The second session of the Youth parliament which paved the way for a new awakening in the youth population which commenced yesterday (24) at the Maharagama Youth Theatre Hall where the Youth Parliament format has been drawn up will continue today as well.

The Global Statement on youth adopted at the conference on youth affairs by the United Nations Organization in New York recently will be taken up for debate at the two-day session.

The second session will take place under the patronage of Youth Affairs and Skills Development Minister Dullas Alahapperuma and Deputy Minister Duminda Dissanayake.

The establishment of the youth parliament is aimed at giving an awareness to the youth population on the parliamentary methodology and Traditions, paving the background for ensuring an exemplary group of youth parliamentarians with the subjective of making them future rulers and drawing up the attention of parliamentarians on the youth parliament and its members.

The youth parliament comprises 335 parliamentarians covering the 332 Divisional Secretariat Divisions in the island elected by holding elections through the country.
