SL Army promote Taekwondo among Jaffna youth

The Sri Lanka Army with a view to providing more opportunities for
the youth in North, are taking measures to set up a Taekwondo Club in
Jaffna in the near future.
The Sri Lanka Army introduced Teakwondo to the young generation of
Jaffna and a grand show of Teakwondo was organized at the Durayappah
stadium to popularize the martial art among the youth and the school
students.
Nearly 300 school boys and girls attended the programme organized by
the Sri Lanka Army Teakwondo Association with guidance of its chairman
and vice chairman of National Taekwondo Association Brigadier B.C.
J.A.F. Rodrigo.
After the event, the students attended a one day Teakwondo training
session conducted by the Sri Lanka Army and Korean instructors at the
same venue.
Players of Sri Lanka Army Teakwondo Association and Korean Teakwondo
instructors who volunteered to assist the local organizers to promote
this martial art in Sri Lanka exhibited their talents in self defense,
power breaking and other techniques of Teakwondo at the Teakwondo show.
Jaffna Security Forces Commander Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe
attended the inauguration ceremony as the Chief Guest while Jaffna
Mayoress Mrs. Y. Pathgunarasa, Additional Provincial Director of
Education V.T. Selvaratnam and a host of distinguished guests were also
present.
