The enshrinement of Sacred Buddha
Relics in the newly built 37 ft Siri Gauthama Dhammarajitha
stupa at the Maha Mewna Asapuwa at Kaduwela was held under
the patronage of Prime Minister D M Jayaratne on August 13.
The stupa was built to mark the 2600th Sri Sambuddhatva
Jayanthi. The Maha Sangha led by Asapuwa Founder Ven
Kiribathgoda Gnanananda thera, Chandra Rajapaksa,
Parliamentarian Wijayadasa Rajapaksa and Pakistan High
Commissioner Seema Illahi Baloch were also present. |

Rajapaksa opened a new trade complex built at Bodhi Raja
Road, Pettah to accommodate pavement traders. This trade
complex has a capacity to accommodate 468 pavement traders.

Suspect remanded for attempting to snatch necklace

The Slave Island Police produced a suspect before
Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge Lanka
Jayaratne for allegedly attempting to snatch the gold necklace of a
woman police officer.
The Police reported to court that the suspect is an
Army officer.
After submissions made by the Police the judge
remanded the suspect till August 28.
Yoga workshop
The free Yoga meditation workshop organised by the
Maharagama Sethsada Yoga Nikethanaya to foster a healthy nation will
be held at the Maharagama National Youth Services Council Auditorium
on August 21 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., said Veteran Yoga Consultant and
Psychologist Deshamanya Charmin Warnakula.
The third edition of the book on Yoga for Physical
and mental health will also be launched on this day, he said.
The workshop will include training in Yoga Asana and
healthy life, vegetarianism and health, breathing exercises and long
life, music therapy, hypnotism, meditation and health care,
'Kundalika' meditation and Vishwa Shakthi exercises and laughing
therapy.

Postponement
The initial training programme for newly recruited
Grade II Jailors and welfare officers of the Prisons Department
scheduled to commence on Monday August 22 has been indefinitely
postponed due to unavoidable circumstances said Commissioner General
of Prisons Maj General V.R. Silva in a press release yesterday.
A fresh date will be notified to the new recruits
summoning them for the training programme in due course, the release
said.

Japanese cultural exhibition
The Japanese Cultural Exhibition organized by the
Japanese Embassy and the Japanese Language Teachers' Association of
Sri Lanka will be held on August 20 and 21 at the Harold Peiris
Gallery, Lionel Wendt, Guilford Crescent, Colombo 7.
The exhibition
will feature Ikebana floral arrangements, bonsai plants, origami and
calligraphy, demonstrations of Ikebana floral art, bonsai planting,
origami folding, the art of Japanese calligraphy and Kimono
dressing.
