Remembering the day of Badr
In a press release, Western Province Governor Alavi Moulana signifies
the importance of the 17th day of Ramadan. The release states: The 17th
day of Ramadan signifies an importance watershed in the annals of Islam
and its existence. Though the Muhajireens (original Emigrants) had to
Flee the City of Makkah due to persecution unleashed on them for
accepting the Almighty Allah were not given much leeway to settle in the
newly found sanctuary Madinah, Apostle of Allah had received information
to the effect that nearly 1,000 battle-hardened Makkans were preparing
to invade Madinah to wipe out Muslims completely out of the face of the
Earth.
Conscious of the sacrifices that had been made by the new Companions,
Rasolullah was hesitant to call them to re-coup and face the enemy.
Nevertheless, the Companions the Allah's choicest people ever born on
the Earth, volunteered to join their master to encounter the enemy. Thus
74 Muhajireens and 239 Madinian Ansaris who had no previous warfare
experience formed a formidable Army and advanced towards the city of
Badr under the able command of Holy Prophet of Islam. All in all there
were 313 unarmed Companions including some teenagers to face the mighty
Army of Infidels. The tactics and the formation that the Muslims
followed and the form of identification they adopted to identity their
fellow comrades were innovative and exemplary. With Allah's Grace they
were able to defeat them well and truly while losing only 14 companions.
Allah having pleased with their sacrifice, placed them an exalted
position by revealing the following Chapters in The Holy Quran namely
Al-Baqra and Ala Imran.
"And say not of those who are slain in the way of Allah "they are
dead" Nay they are living though ye perceived it not (Chapter
Al-Baqra-verse 154) Further in the chapter Ala-Imran HE declares thus!
"Think not of those who are slain in Allah's Way as dead. Nay, they
live finding their sustenance in the Presence of their Lord" (verse
169).
Holy Prophet of Islam as well as His erstwhile and righteous
Khaleefas gave prominence to the participants of Badr. Their consul was
always respected and honoured. The battle amounted to an astounding
victory for the Muslims and one that gained them political credibility
for their cause among other Tribes. It became one of the greatest marks
of glory for survivors to say that they had fought at Badr.
"Radhiyallahu Anhum Waralu Anhu"
Allah Well Pleased with Them are They with Him.
