‘Cops’ turn out to be robbers

A gang of four armed robbers posing off as Police officers broke into a businessman’s house at Polhena, Matara on Monday and got away with several household items including a vehicle valued at around Rs 20.3 million.

The inmates were locked inside a room before the robbers made their getaway.

The vehicle taken away by the robbers was found abandoned on the beach in Midigama, Weligama.

A special police team led by the OIC, Crimes Unit Matara Police Chaminda Sanjeewa is investigating.
