Nearly 500,000 people witness Randoli Perahera

Nearly 500,000 people witnessed the final Randoli Perahera of Sri
Dalada Maligawa, Kandy on Saturday night.
The water cutting ceremony took place in the early hours of Sunday at
Getambe ford.
Large crowds came to Kandy to witness Asia’s grandest spectacle
conducted according to religious rites and traditions.
A large number of elephants including tuskers were part of the
procession.
The Perahera which started around 8 pm concluded around midnight.
Special bus services were provided by CTB and private bus operators
to take the crowd home after the Perahera.
A force of over 4,000 police and security personnel were allocated to
maintain security throughout the festival.
The grand spectacle came to an end on Sunday afternoon with the Day
Perahera. |
